Principal’s Message

March 24, 2020

Dear BKW Families,

First, I hope this message finds you and your loved ones well during these uncertain times. Providing your children much-needed stability, normalcy and comfort during the coming weeks is paramount to everything else I would like to share with you.

To begin, I want to take this time to commend the efforts of our BKW faculty, support staff, and the BKW CSD community as a whole, as they did their absolute best to prepare for our new reality with no warning.

Two weeks ago, grade-level teams worked tirelessly to make sure our children left school prepared to continue their learning and development under extraordinary circumstances – unsure of how long they would be away from their classrooms, their friends, and the very nature of their new learning norm.

It makes me very proud to be a part of the BKW CSD community as I hear the stories of resilience shown by our students, our parents, and our teachers as they navigate this new educational delivery platform.  Please be patient with us, with your children, and with each other as adjustments are made, given it appears as though the time away from the traditional school may last longer than expected.

Replicating the learning environment created in a classroom would be an overwhelming task for adults who are still trying to work and manage their households.  Instead, we are asking the families of our children to work collaboratively with their child’s teachers to facilitate a variety of learning opportunities. Additionally, all of our teachers should have an established a manner in which to communicate regularly with their students.

Yes, learning is important, and we want our students to continue to grow, but please take advantage of this time together for fun activities – play games, do puzzles, build a snowman!  All of those things are still “snapping neurons” and creating healthy memories your children will share generations from now.

We, the BKW Elementary community, already miss those sweet, smiling faces! Please remember we are here to support you and your children.  If there is anything we can to do help, please reach out to me or your child’s teacher directly.

In partnership,
Annette Landry
