Principal’s message – Sept. 24, 2021

September 24, 2021

Dear Parent/Guardian,

I hope that you had the opportunity to attend Open House yesterday evening and that you are pleased with the information that your child’s teachers shared with you. We are off to what I think will be a spectacular year. It may not be perfect, we may periodically have students who are required to attend classes remotely because they are contacts of a positive COVID-19 case, but we will be doing our best to bring a sense of normalcy back. Our students need and deserve this. However, we have to do this in a responsible way to maintain safety for everyone in the building and for our families at home. I am soliciting your assistance and understanding as we do our best to navigate this unfamiliar and uncharted environment.

October 8 marks the first interim marking period. The teachers will be using this first interim period to evaluate your child’s academic progress thus far and to make whatever necessary adjustments are needed to ensure your child’s success. Consequently, we will be implementing a Middle School Academic Assistance program. The aim of the program is to address gaps in students’ academic performance due to the effects of not being in the building every day last year.

This program will run from October 18, 2021 until the end of May 2022. Academic assistance will be from 3:20 to 3:50 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week. A schedule along with a registration form will be sent home with students during the week of October 11. If you think your middle school child needs academic assistance or if his or her teacher recommends your child for the program, please do not hesitate to have him or her registered. Students attending academic assistance may take the 3:50 bus home.

If you have any questions about classroom events or activities, please contact your child’s teachers directly. You may contact me at any time if your question is about building activities and programs.

Sincerely,
Mark A. Pitterson, Ed.D
Secondary School Principal
