Principal’s Message from April 29, 2021

April 29, 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians:

We are now in the last quarter of the 2020-2021 school year. The fourth quarter is probably the most significant quarter of each school year for numerous reasons. I want to take the opportunity to address some of the significances.

As to be expected, the fourth quarter of the school year is crucial in determining the level of success that will be enjoyed by each student. This is the last full marking period that students have to raise their grades. Depending on what was happening over the last three quarters, some students will need to use this quarter to secure a passing average in some of their classes. Others will use it to raise their final average. Either way, the fourth quarter is and always will be an academic sprint to the end of the school year. Please be extra vigilant in monitoring your child’s grades. Please keep in touch with his or her teachers, and most important, please give your child the motivation and encouragement that might be needed for him or her to finish the year strong.

The fourth quarter is also always packed with numerous ceremonial activities that celebrate students’ accomplishments throughout their educational career. These are some of, if not, the most anticipated events for both parents and students. This year, even during a pandemic, BKW Secondary School will be doing our best to celebrate these important accomplishments and milestones with our students. However, we may be forced to make some changes to adhere to the latest Center for Disease Control, (CDC), Department of Health (DOH) and New York State Education Department (NYSED) guidelines.

Regents Examinations will be from June 17 to June 24
Senior Awards will be on June 3
Senior trip will be on June 24
Grade 8 Moving Up and Awards will be on June 21
Graduation date will be June 26

Please mark these dates on your calendar. I will be sending out further details on each event as we get closer to the date and we have the latest guidelines.

Respectfully,
Mark A. Pitterson, Ed.D.
