BKW voters approve $24.7 million budget

Voters of the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Central School District approved a $24.7 million budget for the 2025-26 school year, with 556 in favor and 234 opposed – a margin of 70%.

The $24,737,328 budget for the 2025-26 school year carries a 3.3% tax levy increase, within the district’s assigned tax levy “cap” of 3.3%. A simple majority of voters (50% plus one) was needed to pass the budget. The budget includes the retention of the district’s School Resource Officer (SRO) and responds to needed adjustments to economic conditions related to transportation, utilities, and insurance premiums.

“As a district, we are grateful for the support and commitment from our school community,” said Superintendent of Schools Mrs. Kane. “The approval of this budget allows our district to move forward and continue to offer excellent educational opportunities with programming and curriculum for our students to engage and succeed in today’s classroom.”

Two members were elected to the Board of Education: Matthew Tedeschi with 556 votes and Rebecca Miller with 597 votes. Both were incumbent candidates who ran unopposed in this election.
