Operationalize Academic/Instructional Parameters for Reopening

Elementary School – Pre-Kindergarten – Grade 6

  • Grades Pre-K-6 is planned for an every day model with all of the students coming to school on a daily basis.
  • Each grade level will have an additional staff member assigned as a means to reducing group sizes to comply with social distancing protocols. Students will be cohorted and assigned to a staff member in order to minimize the number of individuals students and staff members interact with daily.
  • One (1) Teaching Assistant will be assigned to each grade level to support instructional needs for their assigned grade.
  • In addition, the district will keep an open mindedness to other instruction models that could reduce the number of in-person students should conditions change and the need arise.
  • The school will facilitate remote instruction for any student who requires it due to COVID-19 symptoms or exposure, for those who are deemed medically vulnerable.
  • Due to social distancing requirements, all school spaces will be used as instructional spaces (e.g., classrooms, cafeteria, special area classrooms).
  • Specials and recess will be incorporated into the instructional blocks.
  • All classroom instruction will be facilitated through Google Classroom platform. Therefore, students who may be on remote instruction will access Google Classroom to participate in synchrounous instruction with their teacher and peers.
  • The elementary school day will consist of five (5) one-hour instructional blocks, wrapped around a thrity (30) minute lunch period. The elementary school day will run from 8:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

  • There may be times when it is necessary to close school completely. In this situation, students will continue to have instruction through “virtual instruction days.” Students will be required to participate in classroom work remotely and/or complete assignments. Student expectations on virtual days will be determined by the teacher based on what will work best for the specific class and what is being learned.

Secondary School – Grades 7– 12

  • The Secondary School schedule contains a traditional scheduling model and offers students all courses available in the program of studies.
  • Every effort will be made to accommodate all students in grades 7-12 in person. Strategic consideration of online delivery or distance learning opportunities are being made and those methods may result in selected shift for individual courses to a remote model.
  • Any on line delivery will be synchronous with the existing master schedule, allowing students to participate in their assigned schedule virtually through Google Classroom.
Instruction will be provided using longer periods to reduce the number of instructional spaces and student contact exposures each day.
  • In the event of a school-wide closure, the school will move to a “virtual instruction day.” On virtual instruction days, students will be required to participate in classroom work remotely and/or complete assignments. Student expectations on virtual days will be determined by the teacher based on what will work best for the specific class and what is being learned. As an example, students in an English class may be assigned independent reading or writing, while students in a Math class may watch the day’s lesson live and from home.
  • In response to concerns about alternate day programming expressed by some of the parents of 7-12 students with disabilities, we are offering parents the option to choose daily live instruction for students with IEP’s in grades 7-12 that attend in-district classes.
