Applied Math and Construction class builds Little League dugouts

dugout with fence surrounding itThe BKW Applied Math and Construction class, led by Tech teacher Mr. Baker and Math teacher Mr. Jackson, designed and built two dugouts for the Berne Little League this past school year. The students used a modular design, allowing them to construct sections of each 8-foot by 20-foot dugout at school and then assemble them at the Berne Town Park to form the final product. The structures were wood framed and then sheathed with metal siding and roofing. The class secured the dugouts to concrete slabs, poured by parents and supporters of Berne Little League. The students combined their construction knowledge with extensive measurement and estimation along with calculating angles and pitch.
