Dear Parents/Guardians:
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year. I deliberately waited until we have completed at least a full week to communicate with you for a couple reasons. Firstly, I anticipated that even with the extensive reopening plan that we would have some wrinkles that needed to be ironed out. I am pleased to say that, all things considered in this anomaly in which we find ourselves, it has been a smooth reopening of the building and the anticipated wrinkles were not as many or difficult for us to address. Secondly, the students and staff are now settled into this new method of learning and teaching and the necessary adjustments needed are constantly being made to ensure that all students have a successful year.
It would surely be an understatement to say that 2020 has been a difficult year for our students. To this end, the dedicated staff at BKW Secondary are all committed to making school as stress free as possible for all students. Please reach out to us with your questions or concerns and I promise that we will do our best to address them. This does not mean that we may always have a solution, but when we are able to find a safe and responsible solution, we will.
As part of our commitment to continue improving the school environment, we usually rely on members of school community to collaborate with us as members of our Shared Decision Making Committee (SDM). This committee evaluates programs, policies and practices that are currently in the school and makes recommendations on how to make them more effective. The SDM Committee also makes recommendations on the creation and implementation of practices, which we adopt, to enhance the teaching and learning experience of everyone in the building.
Please consider joining us as a member of this most important committee. Shared Decision Making Committee meets once per month on the third Thursday of the month. Our first meeting date will be October 15, 2020. All meetings this year will be via Google Meet and will be held at 8:00 a.m. If you are interested in joining you must first have an email address.
