The proposed roof replacement project not only protects the material investment in both the elementary and secondary schools made in 2017, but also offers the district substantial cost savings on heating for both buildings.
As part of the 2024 Building Conditions Survey, a thermal scan of both roofs was conducted. This scan uses an infrared camera to detect variations in surface temperature, highlighting areas where water penetration has occurred or where heat is escaping. Such scans are invaluable for identifying future repair needs and allow engineers to plan targeted interventions in upcoming construction projects.
The images below illustrate the results of the roof scans. Areas shown in red indicate significant heat loss across the elementary and secondary school roofs. Please note the graphic below (from left to right: BKW Secondary School scan and BKW Elementary School scan).
The proposed roof replacement project would result in substantial long-term savings for the district by reducing both heating and maintenance expenses. In addition, it would eliminate moisture infiltration across all roof areas, thereby ensuring a safe, healthy, and conducive learning environment for students. Finally, the comprehensive replacement of the elementary and secondary school roofs would include a thirty-year full warranty, providing the district with long-term protection against repair costs and minimizing potential disruptions to the educational program for decades to come.
