Voters of the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Central School District approved the district’s $24,729,966 proposed budget for the 2026-27 school year by a vote of 433 (yes) to 146 (no). The budget has a spending decrease of $-7,362 compared to the current year’s budget and will result in a 3.77% tax levy increase, which is at the district’s tax levy limit.
“We are incredibly appreciative of the BKW community for participating in today’s vote and supporting our students and staff,” said Superintendent of Schools Bonnie Kane. “By supporting this budget, we are directly investing in the future of our students and the incredible work of our staff.”
Bus proposition
Residents approved the purchase of three 28-passenger gasoline buses and one wheelchair accessible gasoline bus by a vote of 434 (yes) to 142 (no).
Board of Education election
Two candidates sought election to two seats on the Board of Education. Kimberly Lovell received 445 votes and Marjorie Croote received 427. Both candidates will serve three-year terms on the Board of Education beginning July 1, 2026, and concluding on June 30, 2029.
The results were announced at BKW Elementary School after polls closed at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, and included all in-person, absentee and early mail ballots cast.
Tonight’s vote results are unofficial. Vote totals will be certified on Wednesday, May 20.
