Celebrating students ready to step into the workforce

A new generation of skilled professionals is officially workforce-ready after 16 BKW students were honored for completing their one- and two-year Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.

Students from the Albany CTE campus were honored in a ceremony at the University at Albany, while students from the Schoharie CTE campus were celebrated at the Cobleskill-Richmondville Central School District. Each student received a certificate of completion to commemorate finishing their programs and select students received other honors and awards.

At the Schoharie ceremony, BKW senior and CTE Welding and Metal Fabrication student Trista Smi served as the sole student speaker, sharing the profound impact CTE has had on her education and future career path.

“CTE has been given the opportunity to prepare for a career that other high school students may never get,” said Smi. “Attending Schoharie CTE has been the best decision I’ve made.”

Taylor Klefbeck, a BKW senior and CTE cosmetology student, was also recognized at the Schoharie ceremony with the Joseph N. Fuchs Award. The award recognizes a student who exemplifies growth in achievement, the development of skills specific to an occupation, growth in citizenship, work ethic, leadership and pride in their chosen occupation.

BKW students were among more than 700 students from area school districts recognized for completing their programs.

Many of our seniors are headed straight into the workforce equipped with competitive industry skills and professional connections while others are continuing their education at trade schools.

“We are incredibly proud of these 16 outstanding students for pursuing their passions through Capital Region BOCES,” said Superintendent of Schools Bonnie Kane. “They are going above and beyond to build a skilled workforce in our community.”
