Principal’s Message

March 24, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians:

I trust that all is well with your household and your relatives as we try to make some sense of the current situation we are forced to endure. At BKW, we are making some necessary adjustments needed to keep your children safe without neglecting their academic needs. Here are some necessary adjustments that have been made which impact your child’s education.

By now, all students should be accessing learning materials in all their classes either online or through work packets sent home. I know that this is not an ideal method of instruction for your child or for the teachers. It may also be new to some. However, the teachers have embraced this new method of instruction to try to keep our students from falling behind, or to reinforce skills already learned. This method of instruction may pose a challenge for some families so we are committed to do whatever we can to be of assistance.

We may still have a few computers that can be loaned to assist students who have internet but no device to access online information. Parents or guardians will need to email me to make arrangement to pick up a device. Parents or guardians will have to accompany the student to pick up the device. For accountability, we are asking parents or guardians to please bring a valid piece of identification as you will be required to sign out the device.

Our grades 7 and 8 English Language Arts Examinations, mathematics and grade 8 science assessments have all been cancelled for this school year.

Advanced Placement examinations (AP) will be conducted online this year only. The date of the AP examinations will be announced after April 3. We will keep you informed as soon as we have this information.

We have received some information regarding the Regents examinations. However, there are still many questions. At this time, I have instructed the staff to continue preparing all Regents and AP students to pass these examinations. I will have some follow-up information on both the AP and Regents examinations in my next communication.

Please continue monitoring this site on a weekly basis for updated or additional information. Please do not hesitate to send me an email if either the school district or I can provide you with any further assistance.

Respectfully,
Mark. A. Pitterson, Ed.D.
