Principal’s Message March 1, 2021

March 1, 2021

Dear BKW Parents and Guardians,

I am writing to share with you some recent information regarding the annual NYS assessments. The US Department of Education is holding all states to the letter of the law, requiring standardized testing of students in grades three through eight this spring. While we await more guidance from the NYS Board of Regents on the logistics of these exams, we are confident our students have seen great learning gains since our doors opened in September – even with all of the pandemic challenges. I will share more with you regarding this topic as soon as we receive additional information.

Also, as of 2019, New York State schools are required to provide age-appropriate sexual violence education in accordance to Erin’s Law. This law mandates that all K-8 students in public schools receive instruction designed to prevent child sexual exploitation and child sexual abuse. This year BKW has partnered with the Albany Crime Victim and Sexual Violence Center to fulfill this requirement. These lessons will take place during the week of March 22nd. Additional information detailing the specifics of these educational presentations will be sent home with your child. Participation in this program is voluntary and your child may participate to the extent they feel comfortable. Your child’s teacher and school counselor will be present during the lesson to provide additional support.

As always please reach out if you have any additional questions or concerns.

In partnership,
Mrs. Landry
Principal
