Principal’s message Dec. 16, 2020

December 16, 2020

Dear BKW Families,

Friday, December 4th, marked the end of our first trimester and what a whirlwind it has been! So many of our typical school year activities have been put on hold; however, that has not stopped us from continually finding ways to make this year fun and memorable for our students. This week our Student Council students challenged the whole building to a holiday door decorating contest. Be sure to check out some of these amazing doors on our BKW Facebook page next week when we announce the winners!

Along with this letter you will be receiving a copy of your child’s first trimester report card. This is a standards-based report card with indicators identifying the skills that are critical to student success in the next grade level. Teachers focus on these standards in their instructional planning and provide additional support during AIS to ensure that students are learning these foundational skills.

In mid-January teachers will begin assessing reading and math levels again as they continue to monitor their students’ growth. The F&P and iReady assessments administered to students determine appropriate learning targets and intervention levels for each individual learner. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions about report cards or testing data as it is important to communicate often during these developmental years.

Again, we appreciate all of the support from home as this has been especially critical this year. As a reminder, the COVID guidance is often changing and it can be challenging to stay informed and up-to-date. Please remember that we as a school community have been working hard to keep your child safe and this is the priority when we call home.

Wishing you and your loved ones a safe and healthy holiday break.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Landry
Principal
