COVID-19 case reporting – Jan. 10, 2022; changing protocols

January 10, 2022

Dear BKW families,

The administration has been notified that 24 individuals in the elementary school and 13 individuals in the secondary school tested positive for COVID-19.

We continue to work closely with the Albany County Department of Health on contact tracing. The department reaches out to all contacts and advises them concerning quarantine, testing and other health-related instructions.

Please note that the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other privacy laws restrict us from disclosing or confirming any personally identifiable information. We cannot identify anyone who has tested positive. We know it is important to keep you informed while also respecting the federal and state laws that prohibit the release of confidential medical information.

As I am sure you are aware, the CDC and our health authorities have been in the news with proposed changes to isolation and quarantine protocols, as recently as yesterday.

At this point, we do not have full clarity on the changes we can make. We expect to gain a better understanding of any changes in the next couple of days.

We will advise the community of any necessary local district changes at that time. Your patience is appreciated.

Sincerely,
Timothy Mundell, Ed.D.
Superintendent
