BKW earns a Utica National 2021 School Safety Award

excellence award certificateThe Berne-Knox-Westerlo Central School District was recognized this fall for its school safety record as part of the annual Utica National School Safety Excellence Program.

Utica National Insurance Group, the sponsor of the event, awards various levels of recognition with BKW achieving the “platinum” level for 2021. The award was presented in October.

In the award notification, Utica National indicated that BKW has “demonstrated a desire to create a safe and secure learning environment for the children of the district as a result of the school district’s diligence and adherence to safety principles prescribed to safety group members. As your partners in risk management and safety, we applaud your efforts and dedication.”

Utica National’s School Safety Excellence Award Program has three levels – titanium, platinum, and gold – in which schools can earn a meritorious distinction by meeting specific criteria to enhance overall safety. Through the program, schools with their own transportation, schools with contract transportation, and BOCES are evaluated on a variety of categories. The categories include bullying prevention programs, playground safety and other areas, and are measured using specific, quantifiable surveys.

For more than 40 years Utica National has kept kids and school staff safe and currently insures more than 300 school districts in upstate New York alone.
