A look at 2018-19 school opening by Dr. Mundell

For the most part, opening day went well. Like all first days, students looked forward to seeing friends, but were sometimes uneasy about their new classroom environments. Quickly, however, everyone seemed to settle into a routine as if we had never recessed for the summer.

Most disconcerting were the several phone calls related to transportation. Some parents were uncertain about pickup times and bus numbers and were unable to reach the transportation office. We went to work immediately to address each issue and expect to have everything corrected in the next day or two. Happily, all students safely traveled to and from school, but not with a measure of unease. Families trust us to safely transport their children each day and we cannot afford any mistakes or poor communication.

This year we welcome several new staff members, including teachers and support staff. We also are joined by our new school resource office, Nate Bray. In addition to his regular duties working with our students, he took it upon himself to direct traffic at dismissal. He is clearly committed to keeping our students and school community safe.

We look forward to this year and the great learning that takes place at BKW. We encourage everyone to join us as we make BKW the pride of the region. Remember, “they are because we are.”
