Wrestlers win sectionalsWrestlers win sectionals

BKW hosted and won the Section 2, Division 2, Class 3 Wrestling Championship in the new gym on Feb. 4. The wrestlers broke numerous school records, one of which was sending 8 competitors to the Division 2 State Qualifier on Feb. 10-11. One BKW junior, Joe Sprung, will be heading to the state championship in Albany on Feb. 24.

For the first time, the BKW PTA is sponsoring a science and art fair for middle and high school students! Science projects may be presented by students in grades 7-12 and art projects may be presented by students in grades 9-12. Read More

You may have noticed that there was an addition to the new gym in late December: a large bronze statue of the school mascot, a bulldog. The school’s Student Senate worked diligently throughout the last year and a half to raise funds to purchase the statue. In a school contest, he's finally been named! The students spoke, and Bernie won over Brutus by 57 votes. Welcome to BKW, Bernie the Bulldog!

The National Honor Society is raising money for the Wyatt Spencer Memorial Scholarship Fund at this Friday’s boys basketball game. There will be a 50/50 raffle and bracelets for sale. All proceeds go to the scholarship fund.

BKW secondary school students welcomed the Point Break program to campus, which included a half-day intervention workshop designed to address and stop the problem of bullying in our schools. The workshop focused on showing students how to empathize and respect one another by incorporating high-energy activities, interaction with caring adults and discussions on the topics of bullying, painful life experiences and emotional expression. Congratulations to 7th grader Kai Fischer on winning the annual middle school geography bee. Kai beat out 9 other students in grades 6, 7 and 8 to take the crown.

The Key Club and Student Senate are dedicated to creating a more unified student body in order to stop bullying at BKW. To do this, they set up a year-long anti-bullying initiative that kicked off on Dec. 14 when they encouraged students to wear blue, the color of anti-harassment. Read more

The BKW High School Chamber Singers and Middle School Select Chorus students volunteered their time and joined together to perform Christmas carols at the Westerlo community’s tree lighting event on Dec. 3. Read more

The BKW Varsity Cheerleaders motivated and cheered for more than 15,000 walkers at the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Washington Park on Oct. 16. read more

The BKW Boys and Girls Cross-Country Teams won the Western Athletic Conference Championship on Tuesday at Ft. Plain and 13 team members were named to the league all-star team. read more

Members of the BKW boys and girls soccer teams proved that teammates are more than just those who play beside you when they offered aid, food and soccer supplies to their teammates and fellow soccer players in Schoharie and Middleburgh. read more

New York State enacts new concussion law

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed a bill that will require students who may have suffered a concussion in a school sport or gym class to be sidelined for at least 24 hours. read more
