Did you know:

  • You may apply for free and reduced meal program any time during the year.

  • If approved, each student in the household may have breakfast and lunch each school day in their qualified category.

  • Student qualification is confidential. All meal tickets (full price, reduced price or free) are handled exactly the same way.

  • The number of households that have approved free/reduced applications on file in the district can positively effect the district's ability to receive certain grants and benefits to help our students.

Healthy Minds & Bodies

One of the most important ways in which schools can help your children perform better in classrooms is to provide them with the nutrition necessary for healthy minds and bodies.

Studies have shown that hungry children have difficulty concentrating on their schoolwork. To help students perform their best in the classroom, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Central School District provides breakfast and lunch in the school every day.

Meal Costs

Regular costs for school meals are as follows:
School Breakfast — $1.00
Elementary School Lunch — $1.70
Middle/High School Lunch — $1.80

Prepaid Meal Plans

Prepaid meal plans are available for purchase. Make checks payable to “BKW Meal Programs” and be sure to include the student’s name. Any number of prepaid meals may be purchased at one time.

Grab & Go Lunches

BKW middle and high school students can take advantage of the “Grab & Go” express food service that features pre-assembled submarine sandwiches and wraps, salads, fruit, milk and juices for the same cost as regular school lunch.

Special Activities

Parents, guardians and family members are invited to eat breakfast or lunch with students. The adult lunch price is $2.65, plus tax. Breakfast foods are charged a la carte.

Once a year, BKW hosts a grandparents’ day where grandparents are encouraged to visit the school to share meals with their grandchildren. Information about this special event will be announced in advance.
