Despite the effects of Hurricane Irene, officials at Berne-Knox-Westerlo say the school will open as scheduled Sept. 8.
“The buildings and grounds were not impacted by the storm, and the construction project didn’t experience any storm-related delays,” Superintendent Dr. Paul Dorward said. “Everything is on track to have the schools open as planned next Thursday.”
The BKW Transportation Department has assessed bus routes and determined that some students may experience a moderate extension in the length of their bus ride as some roads in the area remain closed because of storm damage.
A small number of students’ bus routes will be more significantly impacted by road closures. Those families will be contacted directly by the BKW Transportation Department.
