BKW’s Board of Education held its annual recognition awards ceremony Monday night.
“This is one of the most enjoyable opportunities we have as board members,” said board President Carolyn Anderson.
The
Board of Education Recognition Award is the highest honor the district
awards. Recipients — nominated by members of the community, parents, BKW
staff and students — are individuals who have given outstanding service,
or who have brought outstanding recognition to Berne-Knox-Westerlo
Central Schools.
Forms for nominations are available year-round on the school website.
"As you see something that impresses you, you can respond right away,” Anderson said.
This year’s honorees included: Amy Anderson, Michele Diamond, Brenda Dibble, Denise Robinson, William Tindale and Ken Woodmansee.
The board showed special appreciation to the boys varsity soccer team for their fundraising efforts and donations for Middleburgh and Schoharie schools.
Recognized for 30 years of service were Fred Marcil, Patricia Miller, Nancy O’Pezio and Terry Schinnerer. Heidi Johnson, JoAnn Rupeka and Audra Rys received 20 year service awards. Honored for 10 years of service were Sally Baker, Jennifer Brazee, Tammy Davis, Mathew Decker, Michele Halterman, Jeffrey Harvey, Lisa Harvey, Kayla Huether, Brian McCoy, Coriellen Travis and Cheryl VanDyke.
Students with high averages for the 2010-11 school year were also recognized.
Sixth graders who received an average of 95 percent or better last school year include: Brad Ableman, MacKenzie Dorward, Michelle Ferraino, Stephanie Mason, Justin Sprung, and Zachary Wright.
Seventh graders recognized include Patricia Dean, Alexandra Fenoff, Amanda Meehan, Jeremy Sawyer, Savannah Wagoner and Emelia White.
Eight graders recognized were Andrew Bub, Aaron Collins, Thomas Fisher, Samantha Flavell, Merryn Kleider, Julianna Martin, Nicklas Nagengast, and Anna White.
Ninth graders who received a 93 percent average or better for the last school year were Travis Fairlee and Samuel Gerardi.
Tenth graders who averaged at least 93 percent last year were Sarah Abbott, Eric Collins, Angela Cunningham, Laura Devine, Michaela Fisher, Adam Forti, Makayla McCormick and Katelyn Slaver.
Eleventh graders recognized were Anne Choiniere, Keely Duffney, Rachel Fuller, Makayla Gruener, Corey Martin, Erin Salo, Faith Sisson and Victoria Villeneuve.
A reception prepared by BKW Food Service Manager Deb Rosko and her staff followed the awards ceremony.
