BKW invites the Point Break program to help stop bullying through intervention workshop
Last week, the BKW secondary school students welcomed the Point Break program to campus, which included a half-day intervention workshop designed to address and stop the problem of bullying in our schools. The workshop focused on showing students how to empathize and respect one another by incorporating high-energy activities, interaction with caring adults and discussions on the topics of bullying, painful life experiences and emotional expression.
Bullying is a major concern for parents across America and the BKW district is no exception. It influences the success of our youth in the educational system and the experiences they have with their peers. BKW continues to make strides in uniting students within the district and fostering an educational environment that is communicative and collaborative.
The high school students attended the Point Break workshop at the local Rock Road Chapel and the middle schoolers attended in the new BKW gym.
An example of an activity that the middle school group went through was to sit in a random group of four students, find out something they each have in common and something that each makes them different from one another. They learned this information about every person in their group and communicated it to rest of their peers.

These kinds of activities help students branch out and learn more about the classmates they normally have not taken the time to get to know. Toward the end of the workshop, the Point Break facilitator, Andy shared his own story of being bullied as an unlikely target-- a football player. He also shared how this bullying changed him and influenced his behavior and school experience.
