Students can go shopping in room 158
BKW high school English teacher Erin Snyder wants to make sure every BKW student has the chance to shine at prom.
She has collected more than 30 dresses and suit jackets from the faculty and the community that are available to any BKW prom-goer free of charge.
Any student interested can go shopping in room 158 anytime during the school day. Girls can take the dresses down to the nurse’s office to try them on. Dresses are available in many sizes, colors and styles.
Snyder started the program last year, because she knew some of the students couldn’t afford dresses. She asked the community and faculty members for donations. Last year, she received about 15 dresses; this year, she has 30.
“Last year, we had five or six girls who got dresses that fit them perfectly. They were so excited,” Snyder said. “They looked so pretty, and it was nice to see the dresses used again.”
She is still looking for more formal wear for boys and accessories, hair decorations and shoes for the girls. Any donations can be dropped off at the Secondary School main office.
“Anything would be greatly appreciated,” Snyder
said. “It is a great cause that allows students who couldn’t otherwise
afford it still have that special day.”
