BKW unveils new point of sale system for cafeterias

A new cafeteria point-of-sale system, Nutri-Kids, will be implemented March 28 in the secondary school and March 29 in the elementary school.

For the new system, each student will be assigned a PIN number. Parent letters are being sent home with students with a PIN number to learn. Call Deb Rosko, School Nutrition Specialist, at (518) 872-5131  if you did not get your envelope from your child.

Students will put their PIN number in a PIN pad at the register every time they make a purchase. PIN use will be required for cash and snack bar sales as well. When the student enters his PIN in the pad, his photo will pop up so that the account can be verified. If a student enters the incorrect or someone else’s PIN number, the staff will know and stop the transaction immediately.

The system will also allow staff to easily identify important information on the student, such as a food allergy.

Students will be assisted with the new system the first few days. There are no worries if a student forgets his or her PIN number; the staff can look it up.

There are no cards to carry with the new system. The student just puts their PIN numbers in the PIN pad.

All existing pre-paid tickets and/or charges will be transferred to the students account the day before startup.

Parents will also be able to track their child's account online, see what their child is buying, and replenish funds. If paying in-person on mailing a payment, the student's PIN number should be written on all checks and be included with cash pre-payments. Parents will also have the option of signing up to receive an email notification when their child's balance gets low.
