Bomb Squad wins Pete Shaul Showdown

Bomb Squad

The Bomb Squad was named the dodge ball champs of the Pete Shaul Showdown.

Eight teams competed; only one was victorious

To celebrate the end of an era and the end of the Ray “Pete” Shaul Gym at the BKW Secondary School, students spent the end of their last day before spring break cheering on their high school classmates as they engaged in a heated dodge ball tournament: The Pete Shaul Showdown.

Eight teams -- each composed of five girls, five boys and a faculty member – competed in a double elimination battle to the title of dodge ball champs.

The Bomb Squad – consisting of Tanner Laurie, Kyle Gibbs, Ben Geist, Brandon Galgay, Steve Yakel, Courtney Tedeschi, Christina North, Liz Harvey, Anna Lease, Jean Farnam and Co-Athletic Director Tom Galvin -- took the first-place trophy.

The event, coordinated by physical education teachers Amanda Gorman and Kelly Smith, was organized as a last hurrah for the gym and to raise money for a new ping pong table for the physical education department.

The gym, named after former BKW boys basketball coach of 30 years, Ray “Pete” Shaul, has closed its doors and will be renovated as part of the capital project currently underway at the school.

Gorman said they hope to continue the tournament tradition next year.
