Seven BKW bus drivers recently competed in the Capital Area Chapter of New York Association of Pupil Transportation’s School Bus Road-eo, and BKW’s Deb Scholz placed third in her division.
The Road-eo is an obstacle course where drivers test their skills maneuvering buses around cones and barrels, parallel parking and performing other driving tasks, as well as taking a written test on their knowledge of laws and regulations and general driving knowledge.
This year, there were 61 contestants representing 13 area school districts or school bus contractors competing in two categories: full-size school bus and van-size school bus. The full-size big bus contestants were Cindy Bevington, Dave Clark, Darleen Shrederis and Martin Shrederis. The van-size contestants were Nancy O’Pezio, Deb Scholz and Kathy Stempel.
Scholz placed third a score of 235 points and was presented with a plaque and $50.
The Road-eo is a fun family event that brings
drivers from different districts together for friendly competition. All
of the BKW drivers that participated said they enjoyed their day and look
forward to competing again next year.
