The job of a librarian may not always rival doctor or astronaut on the typical list of lofty career aspirations, but BKW Librarian Beth Davis’ enthusiasm for her job may be changing that — at least with students enrolled in the Information Sciences program at the University at Albany.

BKW Librarian Beth Davis recently gave a presentation to a group of students in the Information Environment class at UAlbany’s School of Information Sciences.
Davis was recently asked to give a presentation
to a group of students in the Information Environment class at UAlbany’s
School of Information Sciences.
Davis discussed with students what she loves
most about working as a librarian in a small school district like BKW.
“Working in a small district enables me to get to know the students much
better, and facilitate truly meaningful collaboration, whether it’s on a
term paper or working with a teacher to supplement a portion of a class
curriculum,” she said.
Her enthusiasm rubbed off. Although she was originally asked to keep her presentation roughly one hour in length, students asked so many questions that she finally looked to Professor Frank D’Andraia for a cue after one hour and 45 minutes. D’Andraia’s response: “Keep right on going!”
“Beth Davis was more than a hit; she was a
total success. I was most grateful to have her share her extensive
knowledge and experience with the students and for helping shape
future information leaders,” said D'Andraia. “Her willingness to give
back to UAlbany provides verification of her character, as well as her
level of dedication and commitment to her career of choice.”
Many of the students stayed to speak with Davis
after class, and one student even told Davis that her presentation
inspired her to become a school librarian. Needless to say — Davis has
been asked to return to UAlbany to give more presentations in the
future.
“Talking to the college students was a blast,”
Davis said. “Any chance I get to spread the ‘BKW-ness’ around, I take!”
