BKW invited to Take Back the Night

The Albany County Crime Victim and Sexual Violence Center has invited to all the students and staff at Berne-Knox-Westerlo Central School District to participate in its 30th annual “Take Back The Night” march and rally on Thursday April 14, 2011.

This year’s event will be hosted by The College of St. Rose, located at 432 Western Ave., Albany.

Take Back The Night is an international event that had its beginning in 1976. It is one of the many efforts to educate communities about crimes of sexual violence. This event gives a voice to victims of sexual assault, letting them know that they are not alone.

During the rally, there will be speakers, performers, and survivors who share their stories and knowledge about sexual assault and awareness. Many organizations and agencies participate during the rally as well by tabling at the event.

"Take Back The Night is a great opportunity to promote awareness and to prompt conversations around this important issue. By participating in this event, you can take a stand against sexual violence and give strength to survivors,"  Albany County Crime Victim and Sexual Violence Center Prevention Educator Amy Vincent said.

The pre-rally will begin at 5 p.m. Followed by the rally at 6:15 p.m., consisting of speakers and performances. At 7:15 p.m., attendees will march through the streets of Albany as a way to raise awareness.

"This is an opportunity to speak out on a very important issue that has silenced so many people," Vincent said. "Join the many voices in making strides toward hope, toward change, and toward humanity."
