Dergosits uses Twitter to update students, parents on homework and news

Fourth Grade Teacher Bill Dergosits is keeping his class connected using the popular "micro-blogging" site Twitter.

Students and parents who follow Dergosits on Twitter at "@mrdergosits" receive real-time updates from his classroom, from upcoming homework assignments and quizzes to current class events.

According to its creators, Twitter is "a real-time information network that connects you to the latest information about what you find interesting." The site allows users like Mr. Dergosits to disseminate short messages of no more than 140 characters in length to all who "follow" him.

Twitter is a free service and anyone with access to an Internet-enabled mobile phone or computer with an Internet connection can sign up.

For parents who would like to learn more: Mr. Dergosits will be discussing his Twitter account during parent-teacher conferences on Friday, Nov. 5.
