Students, alumni earn AP Scholar Awards

Ten students recognized for stellar performance on rigorous AP exams

Seven graduates and three current students at the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Secondary School have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on Advance Placement exams.

Out of the more than 1.8 million students to take AP exams worldwide, these BKW students rank among the 18 percent who perform well enough to receive AP Scholar Awards.

Graduate Kevin Mason qualified for the ‘AP Scholar with Distinction Award’ by earning an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

Graduates Julia Dancer and Michael Galgay qualified for the ‘AP Scholar with Honor Award’ by earning an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.

Graduates Megan Bassler, Kristin Depeaux, Rachel Jordan and Kyle Reynolds, along with current BKW seniors Kathryn Forti, Marion White and Victoria Kocsis, qualified for the ‘AP Scholar Award’ by completing three or more AP exams with scores of 3 or higher.

“We are extremely proud of our students and recent alumni for their performances on these rigorous exams,” said BKW Secondary School Principal Tom McGurl. “We commend them for having the drive and determination to take on such demanding classes.”

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP exams.
