A message from
Principal
Fred Marcil
It has been my pleasure to have been employed by
the Berne-K nox-Westerlo School District for 25 years. For the
past eleven years, I have served as the Middle School
Administrator and the Associate Principal K-12. I enjoy working
as principal for the middle school. This age group presents a
unique challenge. Students in grades six through eight undergo
dramatic changes regarding social, emotional, physical and
intellectual development.
I also serve as the district’s Athletic Director. It has been my
pleasure to oversee a very successful and competitive
interscholastic athletic program that offers a wide variety of
team sports on the modified, junior varsity, and varsity levels.
For five years (1990-95), I was the Director of Special
Education and the Chairman of the Committee on Special
Education. Meeting the demands to serve our disabled and
handicapped students was challenging yet very satisfying.
I first came to BKW in the Fall of 1981 to become the
junior/senior high school's first special education teacher. As
the special education teacher, I developed the program to serve
17 students in the non-categorical resource room. For many
years, I coached the varsity track and field team and advised
the SADD and Natural Helpers Clubs.
Personal Education Philosophy
I believe that students must strive to achieve
academic excellence relative to their ability. Schools must
first teach basic foundation skills; inspire our students to
become independent and lifetime learners, thinkers and problem
solving; to teach students to show respect and tolerance to
everyone, to be safe and to become productive workers and
exemplary citizens. |
