A
message from High School Principal Mary Petrilli
It has been my pleasure and honor to serve the Berne-Knox-Westerlo
Central School District for 17 years, first as a middle and high
school social studies teacher and as social studies department
chair, before being appointed high school principal in 2000.
I am privileged to work with a talented and dedicated faculty
and staff who, with the support of the board of education,
parents and the greater community, have enabled our students to
attain numerous accomplishments of which we can be very proud.
Our students have an impressive record of academic achievement,
and also excel in other fields of endeavor such as athletics,
music and drama, and school and community service. I am
particularly proud of the vast diversity of course offering we
are able to provide to BKW High School students, including
numerous Advanced Placement and University in the Classrooms
courses that are eligible for college credit, as well as a
variety of internships. Our participation in the Distance
Learning, Vo-Tech and New Vision programs provides further
opportunity for students to pursue their individual interests.
We also face numerous challenges in maintaining and raising
these levels of accomplishment, not the least of which is
meeting the increasingly rigorous state and federal standards
for student achievement. At Berne-Knox-Westerlo, the faculty and
administration are working diligently to meet these
requirements. We are also continually endeavoring to provide
students a safe and secure environment where learning is the top
priority. Achievement of these goals requires the support of
parents and the community.
I invite and welcome the participation of each segment of our
school community in the education process, so that our students
can receive the best possible preparation for the future. |
