student cooks the competition at SkillsUSA
BKW junior and Capital Region Career & Technical S chool
student Amanda Tubbs, won a first place award at the 2006 New
York State SkillsUSA Competition held April 5-7 in Syracuse.
SkillsUSA, a national organization for career and technical
education students, holds the event annually at regional, state
and national levels. Tubbs, who studies hospitality technology
and culinary arts at Career & Tech’s Schoharie campus, won the
food and beverage service competition. In addition to her trophy
and gold medal, she received a $15,000 college scholarship. In
June, she will compete at the national SkillsUSA contest in
culinary arts in Kansas City, Mo.
