AFS Awards for Excellence Scholarship
Program
For high school seniors who demonstrate
leadership and service to their community as well as strong
academic achievement. Students must be nominated by their
teacher, guidance counselor or principal while attending a U.S.
high school. Applicants who best exemplify academic excellence
(3.5 GPA or higher), community service and leadership will
receive $200,000 in awards for excellence scholarships. For more

Capital District Chapter of the New York
State Society of Professional Engineers Scholarship
For young people pursuing engineering as a
career. One $1000 and two $500 awards are being offered to
students who attend an ABET-accredited college or university

Elks National Foundation Scholarship Legacy
Award
For high school seniors who are the children or
grandchildren (or stop-child, step-grandchild, or a legal ward)
of a LIVING ELK, who joined the Order on or before April 1, 2003
and has been a member in good standing since then. The Elk must

Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Award
For high school sophomores who have demonstrated
leadership ability and are interested in interacting with groups
of distinguished leaders in business, government, education and
the professions to discuss present and future issues. Check with
the Guidance Office for an application.

National Commission for Cooperative
Education
For high school seniors with a GPA of 3.5 (B+)
or better and community college transfer students who are
planning to participate in college cooperative education. This
Co-op scholarship will award 113, $5000 merit scholarships at a
total value of $2,260,000. Applicants must include a typed
one-page essay describing why you have chosen to pursue a
college cooperative education program.

Principals
For a high school senior in the top 20% of their
class who demonstrate leadership. Applicants must be nominated

For high school seniors or a college students
though junior year who are sons/stepsons or daughters/step
daughters of an Elk member in good standing.

Scholarship
For high school seniors planning to attend a
college of the State University of New York of a two-year
community college before transferring to a college of the State
University of New York for a baccalaureate degree in education
are eligible. Applicants will be judged on character,
personality, academic achievement and potential teaching
ability.

Park Scholar Award at Ithaca College
For students entering as college freshman. Up to
20 entering freshman will be selected to receive full
merit-based scholarships based on academic and creative
achievement in communications, involvement in relevant
extra-curricular activities and significant community service.
Each scholarship covers the full cost of attendance per year and
is renewable annually for up to four years of continued
full-time enrollment in the Roy H. Park School of Communications
at Ithaca College.

Patricia Grodd Poetry Prize for Young
Writers
For high school juniors and seniors who like to
write poetry. The winner and two runners-up will see their poems
published in The Kenyon Review. The winner will also receive a
full scholarship to the Kenyon Review Young Writers workshop.

SAE Engineering Scholarships
For high school seniors interested in the study
of engineering and the related sciences. Applicants must be a
citizen of the U.S. at the time of the application and meet
minimum requirements with regard to grade point average, SAT 1
and/or ACT scores as outlined in the individual requirements of
each scholarship. Individual requirements for various
scholarships can be obtained in the SAE application booklet.

Sam Walton Community Scholarship
For high school seniors. Applicants may NOT be a
Wal-Mart of SAM’s CLUB Associate or be the child or legal
dependent of a Wal-Mart or SAM’s CLUB Associate. Applicants may

Toyota Community Scholars Program
For high school seniors. This program will award
100 renewable scholarships valued at $10,000 or $20,000 payable
over four years, to seniors who enroll in a four-year college or
university in the fall of 2004. Each school may have only one
nominee -for a student who has outstanding academic record, is
an effective leader, and highly involved in service both in and
out of the school setting. The student must also be currently
involved in a service program addressing a school or community
need.
